Nakita Blocton says that if her life had a title, it would be “From the Trench to the Bench”. Nakita grew up in a home wither mother as a single parent, but she had a great father figure – her brother. He took on the mantle of breadwinner and joined the military with the sole purpose of providing for his family. Although Nakita was always a good student, she found herself a single mom as a teenager. Her brother sat her down and warned her that she was going to become just another statistic. She took his words to heart, and not only graduated from high school, she went on to get a Bachelor’s Degree from Miles College and a JD from Birmingham School of Law. She was elected Circuit Court Judge, Domestic Relations in 2016.

Before her election as judge, she was an attorney in private practice for 13 years, former managing partner at Threatt & Blocton LLC, special sitting judge of the Family Court, daily master in Jefferson County Domestic Relations Court (Divorce Court), regional foster care recruiter at Children’s Aid Society, and investigator at Legal Aid Society in Family Court. She sits on the board of the Rickey Smiley Foundation and Impact Family Counseling, and is a former board member of SafeHouse. She is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta Law Fraternity, Kiwanis Club of Vulcan, Vestavia Chamber of Commerce and Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She was voted Top Attorney in Family, Birmingham Magazine. She was a Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Honoree. Blocton has served her entire career serving as an advocate for children and families.
